New to crypto? Cryptocurrency Basics is a 9 minute video that serves as a great intro to the world of crypto. It’s part of my Crypto and Web3 for Absolute Beginners course.

What do winners (both in life and in crypto) have in common? They share the same goals. The thing that sets them apart is probably their habits.

3 cool things:

  1. Cool: Pickle Finance — the set and forget yield maximizer

  2. Article: Ethereum (ETH) Will Dominate Web 3.0 Future, According to Polygon (MATIC) Founder Sandeep Nailwal – Here’s Why

  3. Thread: Some learning from conversation on DAOs

Etherna’s mission to stop video censorship

Decentralized video. It’s what Etherna is all about. I’m not sure how I feel about this, if I’m honest — the idea being:

No videos will be censored. Everyone should be entitled to its own idea.

More specifically, Etherna is a gateway that allows you to view videos hosted on Swarm and organize them (as DanieleDellaCorte.eth pointed out in a Bankless comment thread).

YouTube is awesome because there’s lots of great content to consume. YouTube also has a lot of power in that it can remove content that it deems unacceptable — or, potentially — steer you away from seeing content it doesn’t want to show you or that isn’t as profitable to show.

Here’s the tough part.

You either have gatekeepers or you let everything — anything — hang out. I hate the idea of one political party shutting out another, for instance — or the idea of someone in power shutting me out. I also hate the idea of content I’d deem unacceptable having a place to exist, to be seen and to thrive.

Clearly, as a society, we believe there are lines that shouldn’t be crossed. That’s why it’s illegal to steal or to murder. But who draws the lines and where (and for what)? A centralized authority? A decentralized group that takes a vote?

I don’t have the answer for how humanity should proceed here. Even in America free speech is under assault and that deeply troubles me. Clearly, censorship and de-platforming are problematic in a free society (and whether or not you think so really depends on whether or not “your team” currently holds the most power).

What I do know is that, ultimately, at least for now, I’m glad that crypto offers at least a partial potential solution to the problem of censorship (although much of crypto is turning out to be highly centralized).

If given the choice between not being allowed to say/see anything or being able to say/see anything and everything… what do you choose? How do you speak truth to power when power, not truth, is all anyone really cares about anymore?

Essentially, you have to choose the say/see anything route because if you don’t you basically go from, “I think therefore I am,” to, “You think for me therefore I’m not.”
